Contrary to what you might think, the fire was only the trigger for everything that would come later, but that wasn’t the worst part. My life has had very difficult moments which some might seem incredible to you, however, I assure you that many of them, when I describe them in my book Worse than you, better than all, I fall short, because words are not enough to capture the intensity of emotions, pain, nor happiness that I felt at those moments.
Today, medicine has come a long way, however, there are very high risks when entering an operating room, because you don’t exactly know what’s going to happen; Despite the fact that I was very concerned about knowing what each intervention consisted of, the reality is that there are many factors that make the surgeries and their results uncertain, that is, the established plan is one thing, reality is quite another, in most cases it can be terrifying, or much kinder than we thought at first.
Uncertainty is terrible, a lot of character and self-confidence is required in order to face it, because sometimes our minds play tricks on us, making us see things much bigger, challenging or more difficult than they really are. What do I mean by this? Many times, we think that something very serious might happen, that the results are going to be negative or that the sale is not going to be achieved, however, in reality, those concerns are not necessarily what ends up happening.
Not knowing what is going to happen is much worse than fire, it makes our minds go adrift, what we must do, is look for some technique that can help us calm down, look at things objectively, in order to know to what extent our concern is really an exaggeration.
Don’t confuse this with prevention, prevention is essential in life, not to mention in business; I would say that prevention is dealing with problems before they actually happen.
Preventing helps us reduce worries and problems, eliminates uncertainty in some way, or at least makes it more manageable, since it allows us to work on our reality and modify it, instead of lingering in error.
For this reason, when I went into the operating rooms, I liked to know the reality of what could happen, I asked about the expected results and about the most catastrophic scenarios, but without this becoming a reason for suffering. The only way to prevent in these cases, was to consult different opinions from doctors to be completely sure that the intervention was absolutely necessary, and that all the factors were being taken care of, although there was always the possibility of not coming out alive.
I’m sure there is some way in which you too, could eliminate a bit of uncertainty, prevent certain things and put aside worries, which most of the time will not actually happen.
